[edit] Notes
[edit] Dorsal layers
- 77% of the cells were "type I" (Table 1.)
- characterized by
- a receptive field with an antagonistic center-surround arrangement and
- different spectral sensitivities.
- Sub-types
- 35% Red on-center, green off-surround
- 18% Red off-center, green on-surround
- 16% Green on-center, red off-surround
- 6% Green off-center, red on-surround
- 1% Blue on-center, green off-surround
- From figure 4 - Spot diameters
- Sensitivity for the on-response started around 1/8° and leveled off at about 1/2°.
- Sensitivity for the off-response started around 1° and leveled off at about 6°.
- characterized by
- 7% of the cells were "type II"
- characterized by
- opponent-color responses
- no-center response
- receptive field diameter 1/2°, about 1° from fovea
- Example from fig 7: Yellow on-center, blue off-center - white has no effect
- characterized by
- 16% of the cells were "type III"
- not color-opponent
- most had little to no response to diffuse light
- periphery was color insensitive
- From figure 19 - Center diameters histogram
- Type I Cells - 1/32 to 1/2°
- Type II Cells - 1/8 to 1°
- Type III Cells - 1/8 to 1°
[edit] Ventral layers
- Fell into 2 groups:
- Type III cells - resembling the dorsal type III cells.
- Center diameters ranged from 1/8 to 1/2°.
- Type IV cells
- Like other cells, where concentric with center and surround response
- Some responses didn't have maintained response
- No response for diffuse lighting in short and medium (violet-yellow) wavelengths
- Red diffuse light caused maintained suppressed response
- Responses to up to 20° and 25° of light.
- Type III cells - resembling the dorsal type III cells.
